“Ultraviolet Beauties” by Cara Phillips

Photographer Cara Phillips is an artist from Detroit, now working and living in Brooklyn. She graduated in photography in 2007, and since then she has focused on her own work and has collaborated on numerous projects. She is the co-founder of the online exhibition site Women in Photography and a member of the international photography group Piece of Cake.
The “Ultraviolet Beauties” series started in 2008. By using UV technology, Cara Phillips “set up her studio on the streets of New York City and photographed whoever was willing to sit in her chair. The idea was to offer pedestrians a chance to see their possible future and reconsider the fear of flaws that pervades our society.” In reflected UV photography the subject is illuminated directly by UV emitting lamps (radiation sources). A UV transmitting filter is placed on the lens, which allows ultraviolet light to pass and which absorbs or blocks all visible and infrared light.
Cara Phillips has received numerous awards and is in several private collections.
