Oliver Schwarzwald is a photographer, telling stories through his images. He is inspired by many different things – experiences, memories, observations – and expresses himself through a variety of techniques. As he says: “different messages need different executions”. Born in Gdansk, and now resident in Hamburg, his often fantastical and surreal tales are composed with a precise and meticulous attention to detail – and particularly to the lighting of the image. The Courtauld Institute of Art has selected Oliver Schwarzwald’s work Hurdle to appear in their prestigious East Wing Biennial in January 2016.
