Magazine and Type Design by Matt Willey

Designer Matt Willey graduated from Central St Martins in 1997. After having gained some experience at a handful of small design companies, he joined the famous studio Frost Design, later becoming Creative Director. In 2005 he co-founded Studio8 Design with Zoë Bather. Matt Willey is a co-founder, and senior editor, of Port Magazine, launched in February of 2011. He also is on the board of the Editoral Design Organisation and is the Vice Chairman of The Typographic Circle. He is a visiting lecturer at Skolen For Visuel Kommunikation in Denmark.
Matt created the MFRED Typeface, first drawn for Elephant magazine and then used for Port magazine and used in the guest art-directed December 2013 issue of Wired magazine (US edition). Available to buy on his website, all profits go to Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Matt Willey has won various honours for his work including two Premier Awards from the International Society of Typographic Designers, Silver Awards from the Society of Publications Designers and The Art Directors Club, a Platinum Award from Graphis as well as recognition from D&AD, The Design Week Awards, The Type Directors Club, and AIGA. In 2014 he was named ‘Designer of the Year’ by Creative Review.
