Record sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson

Storm Elvin Thorgerson was an English graphic designer and photographer, he died 18 April 2013. His name is not very well known but his work for rock bands since the late sixties will remain among the most popular. He was commissionned by bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Genesis, Europe, Peter Gabriel, Yes, the Alan Parsons Project, 10cc, Bad Company, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Cranberries, Yourcodenameis:milo, The Mars Volta, Muse or Biffy Clyro… A graphic work that was very important at a time people still bought records.
As a photographer and inspired by surrealist painter René Magritte, he said that some of his works beg the question of is it real or not? He was a teenage friend of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and in 1968 along with Aubrey Powell he founded the graphic art group Hipgnosis, and between them they designed many famous single and album covers like the famous “Dark side of the moon”. Storm Thorgerson is considered the best album designer of all time.

Kelli Anderson has created a very nice series of paper types for a recent talk at Typo San Francisco… These white on white experiments cut, shaped and folded out of paper only are fantastic…
